International Day of People with a Disability
New South Wales State Government
International Day of People with a Disability is celebrated around the world on 3 December. It’s is a time for people with a disability, their friends, families and carers to celebrate their abilities with the wider community.

New South Wales celebrates this day with a month-long campaign called Don’t DIS My ABILITY, proudly supported by the NSW Government and the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care. Events are held throughout metropolitan and regional areas.

Don’t DIS My ABILITY is about changing misconceptions surrounding disability and creating an environment that encourages participation in careers, leisure pursuits and social activities. Ambassadors are selected as role models to support this campaign from the arts, sports and business.

This year’s theme, chosen by the United Nations, focuses on decent work for people with a disability. The aim is to recognise the rights of people with a disability to work and be employed on an equal basis with others, in an environment that is both accessible and accepting.
