a colloquium to examine the impact on theory, research and professional practice.
The Disabilty Studies and Research Institute Seminar Series
(formally Social Relations of Disability Research Network) cordially invite you to our September conference DISABILITY AT THE CUTTING EDGE: a colloquium to examine the impact on theory, research and professional practice.
The 'social model of disability' argues that although individuals may have various impairments, the degree and nature of the disability they experience will be a result of what arrangements society makes to support their social, economic and cultural participation. Such insight has critical implications for professional disciplines from engineering to law, from nursing to architecture, from communications to business and commerce.
In recognition of how these issues are central to contemporary social research, the UTS Transforming Cultures research centre joins with DSaRI to present this day long colloquium on Disability and the Humanities and Social Sciences. The colloquium will hear from four academics active in disability research. Prof Ashley Craig (UTS), Helen Meekosha (UNSW), Dr Jani Klotz, an independent researcher and Prof Andrew Jakubowicz (UTS) will reflect on the central disciplinary questions raised for them by the impact of disability studies.
