NSW Industry Group on People ageing with a disability
People with Disability who are Ageing

In 2000, ACROD NSW, the Aged & Community Services Association of NSW & ACT (ACS) and Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS) formed the Industry Group on People Ageing with Disability, to address issues of concern regarding people with disability who are ageing. The group represents the aged care, community care and disability service industries and aims to improve the quality of care provided to people who are ageing with disability.

The position statements /recommendations in the paper have been informed by broad consultation and discussion with ACROD, ACS and NCOSS members. In October 2001, the group released the discussion paper, Issues Paper on People with Longstanding Disability who are Ageing. This paper highlighted cross-sector service system issues for people who have experienced an early onset and longstanding disability and who are now ageing.

The Industry Group strongly urges that State and Commonwealth Governments work collaboratively with the aged care, community care and disability services in NSW to improve services and outcomes for people with disabilities who are ageing.

Copies of the draft report are available through the Industry Group.
