Disability Services Commission : Western Australia Description: The Disability Services Commission was established in December 1993 under the Disability Services Act (1993). Under the Act, the Commission is responsible for policy and program development and service planning in all areas that affect the rights and needs of Western Australians with disabilities. The Commission has seven distinct directorates, which have responsibility for particular areas of operation. The seven directors form a corporate executive headed by the Chief Executive Officer, who reports to the Premier through Treasury and Parliament, the Minister for Disability Services, and the Disability Services Commission Board, appointed by the Minister for Disability Services. The Board is the Commission's governing body and of the nine board members, at least five either have a disability, a relative with a disability or recent experience as a carer or advocate.
